This is especially true after rainstorms when you may not even want to go in the water Ĩ) Outdoor showers to wash off sand & bathrooms are mid-way on the path leading down to the beach (about as clean as you would expect for such a venue) ĩ) This is not a surfing beach really but some bodyboarders and body-surfers fare well under the right conditions ġ0) The tide-pools are slippery (wet) and the rocks are often sharp - you'll do better with decent tennis shoes on these. Keep an eye on toddlers so that they stay on the path and don't venture over the cliff/bluff ĥ) The beach is small (especially during high tide) and is often rocky near and under the water (careful walking and especially diving) Ħ) Holidays especially in the Summer are crowded and less pleasant (again, the beach is quite small) unless you get there rather early ħ) Don't play or let your kids play in the "creek" that flows from Buck Gulley into the beach from the hills above - this is runoff and not clean. I've been coming here since 1969 and it is a good place to visit on these terms & with these provisos:ġ) Come during low-tide - you can see the tide-pools with small fish, crabs, shellfish and the occasional octopus high-tide submerges most of the beach Ģ) The bluffs above make for great sunset views and photographs ģ) Parking is limited (try Ocean Boulevard and Poppy Avenue but you may need to park far away) Ĥ) The path down is relatively steep down.and back up - not ideal for the elderly or wheel-chair bound. I think this little hidden gem will get you away from the crowded beaches and give you a unique adventure (as long as not too many Trip Advisor readers visit at the same time). Parking may be a problem, as you compete with contractors remodeling the multi-million dollar homes (with a multi-million dollar view).īe sure to wear shoes or sandals that do not slip easily, as seaweed covers a goodly portion of the tide pool rocks and is slippery to stand on. Little Corona Del Mar Beach is where Ocean Blvd takes an abrupt left. All of these streets dead end at Ocean Blvd. To get to Little Corona Del Mar Beach from Coast Highway, State Highway 1 in Corona Del Mar turn toward the sea on any of the following small streets: Marguerite, Marigold, Narcissus, Orchid, or Poinsettia. If taking the path is daunting, there are benches above where one can watch a wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean, the jetty into Newport Bay, and quite a bit of coastline. Midway are the bathrooms with showers and running water facilities. To get to the tide pools you have to walk down a fairly steep paved road that has steps on one side. All the while you can watch the waves pound against rocks jutting out of the sea. My 6 year old grandson delighted in finding all sorts of sea creatures including anemones, sea urchins, sea slugs, crabs, hermit crabs, and starfish. There is a quite large expanse of area that is exposed at low tide. The main attraction for us is the tide pools at low tide.

There are no signs to Little Corona Del Mar Beach so only the locals know where it is and what a nice place it is. We have returned to visit it twice recently with our grandson, the most recent January 2013.
